T-Mobile USA quickly emerged as the top bidder in the advanced wireless services (AWS) auction which began earlier today. The carrier is in desperate need of spectrum to be able to launch 3G service, something that all three of its national competitors have already done.
After the first round of bidding $769m was put on the table. Of that T-Mobile claimed $437m, making up more than half of the total auction. The auction is expected to last several months and is could raise over $13 billion.
