Sprint Nextel this morning announced disappointing results for the second quarter. One year has passed since the merger with Nextel. Sprint only added 210,000 new post-paid wireless customers, compared to 1.5m and 1.8m by Cingular and Verizon respectively. More importantly, average revenue per customer slid 6% from a year ago. Shares of the company were trading down 15% as of this afternoon.
Most interesting for consumers is that Len Lauer, Sprint Nextel's COO, noted that the company plans to expand its offering of Motorola handsets in the fourth quarter. Specifically both the Q and SLVR were mentioned during the conference call. The KRZR was also hinted at. On another front, Lauer said that hybrid iDEN/CDMA phones would be in consumers hands by the holidays.
