Verizon Wireless gave a sneak peek to its second quarter results today. By adding 1.8 million net new customers, Verizon continued to close in on Cingular for the title of largest carrier. Verizon now has 54.8m customers compared to Cingular's 57.3m.
Since Verizon doesn't do much in the way of MVNO relationships, the vast majority of its customers are direct retail.
Verizon Wireless believes, based on publicly available information, that it has the most retail customers of any wireless carrier, with 52.6 million retail customers of its total 54.8 million customers.
