A new report from 3G Americas and Informa Telecoms & Media states that there will be 2 billion worldwide GSM mobile subscribers by the end of June. Just two and a half years ago we reported on the 1 billion milestone, which took 12 years to reach. The figures include the full family of GSM technologies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS and HSDPA).
The group expects worldwide GSM subscribers to hit 3 billion in 2010 and that 700 million of those will be using UMTS 3G service. Latin America was the largest growth market over the past year, nearly doubling its subscriber count.
