Research In Motion has filed a lawsuit against Visto, countering the suit waged by Visto against RIM earlier this week. The suit attempts to invalidate three of the patents that RIM is accused of infringing upon. The fourth patent is currently under review at the US Patent and Trademark office.
According to the Wall Street Journal [subscription req], Visto responded to the lawsuit by stating both comnpanies want the same thing:
"What they are asking for is exactly what we are asking, which is for the court to determine if RIM infringes on our patents," said Daniel Mendez, a co-founder of Visto, of Redwood Shores, Calif., who helped invent the patents at issue.
Shares of Research In Motion [RIMM] dipped nearly 5% Monday after the Visto lawsuit was announced.
