It looks as if global MMS interoperability has finally made it to the US. Aicent has inked a deal with Cingular Wireless whereby Aicent's global MMS footprint will be available to Cingular customers. In essence this means that an interconnection has been established between operators in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia, utilizing Aicent's network.
Cingular has been using Aicent for international GPRS data roaming, but now it will have access to a global network of operators enabling international MMS. Aicent operates in partnership with more than 70 operators in 40 plus countries.
Many analysts believe the MMS adoption rate has been hurt by cross-network interoperability problems. SMS does a much better job across networks than MMS and has enjoyed much more growth.
