The US government will host another wireless spectrum auction. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration announced it will be cheaper than first thought to move the government out of 1710-1755 MHz. The total cost is expected to come in under a billion dollars, which will be funded by proceeds from the auction.
The new spectrum is expected to help bolster 3G offerings for US carriers. T-Mobile USA may be especially aggressive in the auction as it has waited longer than its competitors to launch 3G thanks entirely to not having the spectrum licenses.
