In conjunction with the launch of Power Vision, Sprint Nextel today became the first US wireless carrier to launch its own music store. The Sprint Music Store offers more than 300,000 songs that can be downloaded directly to a mobile phone over-the-air. The songs can then be downloaded to your PC.
However, at $2.50 a song the Sprint Music Store faces stiff competition from competitors that offer PC-based downloads at around $1 per song. Sprint believes the advantage of being able to get a song on the go justifies the 150% premium. To help spur use Sprint is giving away 5 free songs during the first 30-days after sign-up.
