Aug 15 2005 - 01:10 PM ET | Sprint Nextel
Sprint today announced a major content and sponsorship contract with the National Football League. Sprint is the official wireless sponsor of the NFL and now has the rights to broadcast clips of games to video-streaming capable mobile phones. Rumors of this deal
broke in June.
The content part of the agreement includes:
# Exclusive game highlights/live updates in both audio and video (video will start after the game is over to keep in line with agreements with TV networks).
# Live video - NFL Network
# Video on demand - NFL and Sprint Films
# Fantasy Football
# Ring Tones/Screensavers/Wallpaper
# Polls, contests and sweepstakes
Financial terms of the deal were not announced, but the previous rumors mentioned $200 million as a starting point. Pricing for Sprint customers was also not announced.
Taking Sprint's major sponsorship of NASCAR through Nextel, the company now has a dominant presence with the two largest televised sports in the US.
