Verizon Wireless fixes security breach
Verizon Wireless announced today that is has fixed a bug in its website that made public some data from customers signed up with online billing.
According to the Wall Street Journal [paid sub req] the error only allowed limited information to be viewed:
bq. The flaw allowed customers who punched in another user's phone number to see how many airtime minutes that person had used, as well as the number of free minutes they had remaining for the month, company spokesman Tom Pica said. Snoopers could also learn what cellphone model a customer used.
This flaw was much less serious than a
data theft case T-Mobile faced (sensitive data like social security numbers were compromised.)
