Mobile sales could top 1BN a year by 2009

A new report from research group Gartner
says sales of mobile phones could hit over one billion units annually by 2009. The revised estimate for the current year is 779 million units.
The Asian Pacific market will play a large role in the growth, contributing to about 30% of total shipments:
bq. "China and India alone will account for nearly 200 million units in 2007, with the Indian market surpassing China in 2009 to reach 139 million units," Asia Pacific analyst Ann Liang.
