Sprint PCS announces more EV-DO details
Jun 14 2005 - 12:12 PM ET | Sprint Nextel
Sprint PCS has announced more details surrounding its upcoming EV-DO network launch. Like Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS won't be using the EV-DO name, it will be marketed as High-Speed Data. An info page for
High-Speed Data has been added to the Sprint business website, which includes a few details:
* Sprint will begin the launch in mid-2005
* By the start of 2006, High-Speed data will be in 60 metro areas
* Markets will be coming online as part of a "rolling coverage launch"--the most important parts of a city will get High-Speed Data first (like airports).
Because the first launch is slated as mid-2005, we could see it very soon. Besides data cards, Sprint PCS is expected to have at least one EV-DO handset available at launch.
Verizon Wireless currently offers its EV-DO service in 32 cities around the country. It is expected to cover two-thirds of its network with the speedy data service by the end of the year.
