Kyocera
announced today that it will outsource its North American cell phone production to Flextronics International. 1,700 jobs will be lost in the move.
bq. Kyocera produces 13 million cellphones a year globally. It will outsource production at U.S. unit Kyocera Wireless Corp., which makes 10 million a year, to Singapore-based, Nasdaq-listed Flextronics from late May, the Japanese firm said in a statement.
Kyocera is facing pressure from mobile heavyweights like Nokia and Samsung.
