Nokia introduces NFC shell

Nokia today introduced the Near Field Communications (NFC) shell
announced last year for the Nokia 3220. The Nokia NFC shell enables users to pay for items from debit or credit accounts simply by touching a point of sales device. Additionally, the device can act as an electronic ticket.
In the first live NFC-based public transport ticketing showcase of its kind, Nokia 3220 mobile phones will be tested within the local bus network in the city of Hanau, near Frankfurt, Germany.
The Nokia NFC shell will be available in mid 2005 through carriers. Both Visa and Mastercard have signed on to work with Nokia on the service.
