Deutsche Telekom rules out T-Mobile merger

According to the Financial Times, T-Mobile USA parent company Deutsche Telekom has
ruled out a possible T-Mobile acquisition, such as T-Mobile buying Nextel (a rumor we
highlighted earlier this month).
bq. Kai-Uwe Ricke, chief executive of Deutsche Telekom, has ruled out making acquisitions or stepping up investments for its US mobile phone business in spite of the planned merger of rivals Sprint and Nextel... With Sprint and Nextel busy integrating their businesses over the next two years, T-Mobile USA will have the opportunity to grow without needing to change its strategy or raise its already considerable investments, he said.
Mr. Ricke also denied reports that the company was looking to expand in Canada or Mexico.
T-Mobile USA recently announced that its 3G network is
at least 2-years away, far behind the competition. The lack of spectrum for its 3G network was fuel in the merger rumor fire.
