Om Malik provides some insightful analysis of the Sprint / Nextel merger. As many have said, one of the key points to this merger is the distance that will be put between T-Mobile USA and the rest of the leading US carriers (T-Mobile will not be even half the size of the next biggest carrier). This hurts T-Mobile on several fronts, especially the marketing department.
Om also goes through a conference call held by executives of both companies, including the promises that iDEN will be around through 2007 and Motorola will offer a dual mode (iDEN/CDMA) phone. Sprint Nextel will base its future on CDMA and EV-DO.
Some also believe that the new company will back out of MVNO relationships (like Virgin Mobile) which would leave many MVNOs high and dry.
