There are several recent reports attempting to predict sales figures for cell phones for the next year. Most agree that while sales will continue to grow, the growth will be at a slower pace. A Japanese research group
says demand will increase 5.8% while most phone makers are a little more ambitious. 2004 saw nearly a 13% increase in mobile phone shipments with a total of 566 million sold.
MobileTracker noted last week that the number of mobile phone users has doubled to over 1.5 billion since 2000.
There should be around 600 million phones sold in 2005, many of those in countries like India with a rapidly growing wireless industry.
