Mobile phone users double since 2000

A report out yesterday from the International Telecommunication Union says that mobile phone users have doubled since the year 2000. Besides outpacing the growth of fixed line phone service, new mobile phone users are also growing more quickly than new internet users. China, India and Russia are fueling much the rapid growth. Halfway through 2004 there were about 1.5 billion mobile phone users (1/4th of the world's population).
