Wireless carrier donations
Aug 30 2004 - 01:25 PM ET | Cingular, Nextel
Both Cingular Wireless and Nextel today announced donations to the community. Cingular is
giving $20,000 to the Red Cross to help victims of Hurrican Charley while Nextel
will be giving a portion of sales from its NASCAR-themed accessories to Victory Junction Gang Camp. The camp is a free getaway from critically ill children and was founded by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and his wife, Pattie.
Cingular did more for citizens affected by Charley than the red cross donation, the company set up free calling stations at corporate owned stores, brought in mobile cell towers, gave away Cell Boost batteries and provided free phones to emergency workers.
