Verizon Wireless today introduced a pay as you go service that offers flat-rate pricing without the need of a contract. Several other carriers, including AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile USA, offer similar services.

The Kyocera KX414 is the first phone to work with the service, which is being called Verizon Wireless Pay As You Go.

Pricing is as follows:

  • 10¢ per minute anywhere, anytime after a 25¢ per call connection fee
  • The prepay package retails for $129.99 in most markets and includes a Kyocera KX414, a $15 setup card as well as a choice between a $50 mail-in rebate or a $75 refill card (prices may vary in the Northeast).
  • Three refill cards are available in $30, $50 and $75 increments
  • Text messages are 5¢ per message

To purchase, go to a Verizon Wireless store or a retailer like Circuit City, 7-Eleven and RadioShack.
