Cingular increases subscribers, revenue

Cingular had
a much better first quarter than
AT&T Wireless:
* 554,000 net new customers making for a total of 24.6 million
* Cingular's nationwide GSM/GPRS network overlay on track to achieve 100 percent network coverage in next 90 days
* 66 percent of Cingular's minutes now on its GSM/GPRS network
* Revenues were up 8.4% to $3.9 billion; data revenues up 53 percent
