AT&T Wireless giving away EDGE cards
In November 2003, AT&T Wireless launched nationwide EDGE data service. With speeds over 2x conventional GPRS and nationwide connectivity, the company hoped that business would hop on board. Since the launch, the company has taken a beating.
To help spur sales, it was
announced that starting today anyone who signs a 2-year unlimited data plan will get a
Sony Ericsson EDGE for free.
The card retails for $249.99, which is a chunk of change, but we don't see this promo going anywhere. Tying yourself to EDGE for two years could be a really bad move. With Verizon and Nextel moving for [really] highspeed data, it would be a shame to have only EDGE speed.
