Cingular + AOL bed
Sep 16 2003 - 10:21 PM ET | Cingular, SMS
Cingular has announced that it has partnered with AOL to provide AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) on its mobile phones. The service should be completely integrated by the end of the year. Although there are similar partnerships with other carriers, Cingular says theirs is more in depth.
Any phone that can do SMS will be able to AIM (nearly all phones outside of Sprint PCS).
In an unrelated move, Cingular also scooped up $27 million worth of spectrum licenses and operations in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana from Unwired (a Sprint PCS affiliate).
