Cell phones containing platinum are likely to hit the market next year after an announcement by DoCoMo that it will start shipping 3G phones that use fuel cells instead of batteries. Fuel cells require platinum as a major component to enable them to generate energy.
One of the big knocks on 3G phones is that they have horrid battery life--almost like cell phones 3-4 years ago. In the US, consumers are still trying to text message so it is needless to say that it will be awhile before we get fuel cell powered 3G phones.
