Portable Numbers In Limbo

Gizmodo points to an article at the Washington Post concerning the famed FCC move to make November 24th the date when mobile numbers must be portable (you can keep the number you had with Cingular when you move to T-Mobile for example). The providers know this is bad news since people [usually] wish to keep their numbers thus are likely to stay with their current carrier even if it is an inferior service. Leave it up to lawyers to sue to block something good for consumers:
"Lawyers for the CTIA and Verizon Wireless claim the rule is unnecessary because competition for the nation's 144 million wireless subscribers remains robust. About 24 percent of all wireless subscribers switched companies last year."
